Camp

Morgan and I went to open house at the camp she is attending this summer. I was very impressed with the camp and she loved it! She was able to ride a horse while she was at open house. She absolutely loved everything about camp!! I am so excited that she will be able to attend this summer. I hope after 12 days away, she will realize how much she really does love and appreciate everyone in our family. Don't misunderstand me, she hasn't caused any problems or been ugly. I just know how some days she wishes she could go back a year ago and be the baby and the only daughter. I think the time away from her sisters will her all of us. I will be able to bond more with the girls and they won't ask where she is all the time. They sometimes don't know how to act without her. It will be an interesting two weeks.

  1. GB is going to sleep away camp for one week this summer. I am excited for the opportunities it will give her, but I am also looking forward to Hope coming into her own a little, without her big sister to follow and bounce off of :)

  2. Hi! My name is Natalie and I lurk here on your site. As a former equine professional(as well as summer horse camp counselor) I wanted to let you know that the fact that they had the kids riding without helmets is concerning. It makes me wonder if they really know what they are doing about safety as far as horses are concerned. Horses are big dangerous animals and a properly fitting helmet is essential. If the camp is ACA accreditted then they simply MUST have helmets on the kids when they ride or risk their accredidation. If I were you (speaking as both a mom here and a riding instructor) I would inquire a bit about the qualifications of those who will be handling the horseback riding portion of the camp and see WHY the kids weren't wearing helmets. If they skimp on safety while on a horse then it would maybe make me think they might skimp on safety about other things like swimming, archery, camper to counselor ratio, etc. I know you didn't ask for advice, but I just could not sit by and not let you know what I saw. I'd want someone to tell me if I were in your shoes.

  3. Yes, I have also wondered about the helmet situation. They are required to have helmets at camp. We have to send one. The Mom of the friend Moran is going with is a major safety person. All three of her children have been before and she is pleased. Thanks for your input. I will send an email and make sure they are required to wear helmets at all times at camp. I will also discuss this with Morgan.
