The conference was great today. I could have listened to Kari much longer. She is a great speaker and really knows her stuff. I need to reconsider how I am parenting my girls. I think I will continue to use the things that are working, but change the obvious things. Ann needs something to do with her hands while I am teaching her. She is constantly trying to do something and I am always taking whatever it is away. Well, I need to let her have something. Kari mentioned putting velcro on her son's pencil or on the table. I may try it and see if it helps. It is an easy thing to try. She also has sand timers for all lengths of time. She suggested using them for children that do not function well with 5, 3, 1 minute warnings. My girls are not good judges of time. I think I will be purchasing them soon.
The meeting was worth the trip. I met with the head of the State Office of Adoption and I think since we have a diagnosis she is going to approve my requests. Yeah!! I was very thrilled. She told me before Kari started speaking. It isn't signed yet. I have to wait on the paperwork from the doctor we saw Monday. She told me she had an inbox full of emails from me with my data and research. I apologized and said I was told to advocate for my children and that is what I have done. She said she is glad and wishes more parents would. She said that I had obviously educated myself very well in a short amount of time. I am very happy and glad I came to the meeting. I am enjoying time at my parents with Alex and Morgan. Life is so easy now with only two. These two are easy. I can totally trust them.
Good to see you yesterday. Glad we met face to face. Lets stay in touch!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got some new ideas and was able to refuel. I really hope the state makes the right decision concerning your girls. You are a great mom and advocate for them. So thankful they have you.
ReplyDeleteI was reading a new blog today and thought you might like to read. The family adopted a child with FASD from Ukraine. The boys have other issues as well but thought her blog might have some helpful info. Just wanted to share.
