Why does a child insist on happily wearing jeans when it is 95 degrees outside and they are burning up?
Why does a child insist on wearing shorts and a tank top when it is chilly outside?
She is outside picking up pine cones in a tank top and shorts.
Is this control? I am not making a big deal about it with her. She has been to the soccer field this week in shorts, short sleeve shirt and flip flops when it is freezing to me. She does take a light jacket. I don't want her to get sick, but she loves to get the attention. We are trying not to give it to her. Eventually, I will have to put the clothes in the attic for her health.
I think she is testing, trying to find out what she can control.
All of you experienced readers with neglected children, what do you think?
Definite control issues. One thing that we do is say this...you have control over 2 major things...your actions and your body. And then we chose our battles about other things they try and control. Clothing...try telling a 10 year old in the freezing NY cold that he really does need his heavy jacket and he chooses not to wear it...of course it didnt happen again after that!! hehe
ReplyDeleteI think she is testing too.Don't get rattled(hard to do I know)and just say "good luck with that" and leave it be!!
Oh yeah. Welcome to the control club. I am trying reflection right now. Can't say it is going to work and don't really know where I am going with it but I wrote about it on my blog.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the clothes go. Raleigh is 8, a mature 8 and I still pick his clothes out with only a little input from him. I give him two or three choices and let him pick. He is still in control because he gets to pick what he wears. You might try that.
